  About Us

Philosophy

Studies have shown that a large percentage of students in mainstream schools are bored for much of the day.  The work is too easy and so much time is spent on electives, camps, excursions and “fun” activities that very little actual learning seems to be taking place.  Keating College is founded on the philosophy that learning comes first, that students should not be held back or have to wait until the others catch up.

The aims of the College, as defined by its constitution, are:
  • to provide students with a high quality and academically rigorous education
  • to encourage in students a life long love of learning
  • to encourage students to strive for excellence
  • to nurture the intellectual and social development of students
In order to achieve these aims, the vast majority of the time will be spent on five core academic areas.  There will be regular testing, homework and end of year exams for all year levels (not just VCE students).  For more details, please refer to the curriculum & policies page.

Location

Keating College will be located at 55 Swanston Street, right in the heart of the CBD, so that students from all over Melbourne will have easy access to the College via public transport.  We are less than five minutes walk from Flinders Street Station.  Being located right in the heart of the city gives us easy access to facilities such as museums, art galleries, the City Library and Melbourne’s beautiful gardens.

An environment can shape a philosophy.  We will be in an office building, equipped with the best facilities possible, creating a business like, professional environment.  With no primary classes, students will be treated as young adults and encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning.  With an absolute maximum of 24 students per class, students will be able to receive individual attention and not just “get lost in the crowd”.
